Digitax drives power the future of labelling technology at NITA Revolutionizing labelling with advanced engineering
NITA Labelling Systems, headquartered in Montreal, Canada, is North America’s leading manufacturer of pressure-sensitive labelling equipment. Since 2007, NITA has been at the forefront of innovation, designing and building servo-driven labelling systems that serve a wide range of industries from food and beverage to pharmaceuticals and automotive.
With all engineering, fabrication, assembly, and R&D conducted under one roof, NITA ensures unmatched quality and performance in every machine it delivers across North and Central America, the Caribbean, and Western Europe.
A commitment to innovation and efficiency
In today’s highly competitive, quickly evolving technological environment, innovation is essential and is the key to securing growth. The company’s mission is clear; to increase production efficiency, reduce downtime, and simplify operations for its customers.
To further this mission, NITA partnered with its trusted control solutions provider, Nidec Drives, to upgrade its servo drive systems, ushering in a new era of performance with the Digitax M754 MCI.
Why NITA chose the Digitax M754 servo drive
The Digitax M754 MCI was selected to replace NITA’s previous servo drive solution, bringing a host of benefits to its next-generation Sentient Labelling Systems. These systems now feature enhanced control over conveyor speeds, metering belts, orientation belts, and labelling heads.
Key advantages of the Digitax M754 include:
- Optimized motor control for maximum throughput
- Seamless motor-drive pairing
- Scalable machine control architecture
- Flexible design with modular options
- Reduced commissioning time and improved diagnostics
- Enhanced safety and reliability in 24/7 environments
Compact design, powerful performance
One of the standout features of the M754 is its compact footprint measuring just 40 mm (1.6”) wide. This allows for side-by-side mounting, reducing control cabinet space by up to 25% and lowering overall system costs. Quick connectors simplify installation, while Ultraflow ventilation technology ensures optimal heat dissipation, extending the life of electrical components.
Built for harsh environments
The servo motors used in NITA’s systems are IP67-rated, offering robust protection in demanding industrial settings. This ensures consistent, high-performance operation even in the most challenging environments.
Future-proofing labelling systems with smart connectivity
The onboard MCi processor and Real Time Motion over Ethernet (RTMoE) technology enable real-time synchronization and communication between drives. This opens up new possibilities for machine design and automation, making NITA’s systems more adaptable, scalable, and intuitive.
Driving down costs while boosting productivity
This upgrade demonstrates how innovative motion control technology can significantly reduce manufacturing costs while improving machine productivity, without altering existing mechanical designs. It’s a testament to the power of smarter control systems.
A partnership built on performance
“As a labelling machine manufacturer, it’s important that our systems are adaptable, scalable, intuitive, and connected,” says Luc Harvey, Chief Engineer at NITA. “Control Techniques delivers top notch products and services that help us future-proof our designs and meet the growing demands of our customers.”
