New, instant Smart-Space building allows Cranswick plc to continue expansion plans quickly and cost-effectively

Temporary storage building for food producer

“We were looking for a quick and effective method of boosting production by reorganising the space allocated to packaging and Smart-Space provided us with the ideal solution”

Cranswick plc, based in Hull, is a leading food producer of primarily meat-based products and well-known for its quality of meat – and gourmet sausages in particular! It is an ambitious British business, established in Yorkshire since the 1970s and has achieved significant year-on-year growth. To help its expansion plans, Smart-Space provided a 15m x 20m instant building to be used for its packaging facility.

The Smart-Space building selected by Cranswick is a temporary building that houses 250 pallets of packaging on 5m high racking. By relocating the packaging to a new building, Cranswick has been able to extend its existing refrigeration area.

” We were looking for a quick and effective method of boosting production by reorganising the space allocated to packaging and Smart-Space provided us with the ideal solution,” says Cranswick operations director, Jason Key. “The two-week timeframe for the entire project was extremely ambitious, but Smart-Space delivered inside that schedule. Being a food site means hygiene is vital to our operation and we were delighted with the integrity of the completed building.”

The building has 40mm composite walls and a thermo inflatable roof which allows plenty of light to flood the space. Smart-Space solutions are based on lightweight modular constructions, which can be installed in a fraction of the time and cost of conventional buildings. The company’s temporary, interim and permanent steel buildings can all be fitted with lighting, heat, power and other services as required such as flooring.

Smart-Space is an independently owned British business with its own, directly employed specialist teams. As a Safe Contractor member, Smart-Space demonstrates best practice to comply with Health and Safety legislation and CDM regulations.
