Adhesives Connect Manufacturers to Next-Generation Packaging Design

Packaging is all around us. Consumers use it in multiple ways – to wrap, pack or cover most of their goods – and are increasingly demanding versatility to go hand-in-hand with performance and sustainability. And now, more than ever before, packaging manufacturers require an adhesives partner that supports their customers with value-added solutions, can meet inventory demands, is focused on high quality products, adheres to all legal and environmental regulations, and is able to reduce costs while remaining innovative and socially responsible.

At H.B. Fuller, we rely on innovation to respond to performance and compliance challenges, and our technical experts are committed to partnering with our customers to deliver the best adhesive solution to meet market and consumer demands. Our Advantra® LT 9110 and Advantra® LT 9135, for example, enable energy efficiencies and material consumption savings while also improving safety for line operators, when compared to a standard hot melt adhesive.

Advantra® low application temperature adhesives have an application range of 110˚C to 135˚C compared to standard hot melt adhesives applied between 160˚C and 175˚C. Heating to a lower temperature results in greater pot stability and less wear on the equipment, which means less maintenance and downtime for manufacturers. This lower application temperature also can reduce energy consumption by as much as much as 39 percent.

H.B. Fuller’s technical experts are focused on delivering adhesives that address ever-increasing pressure on suppliers to the packaging making industry to focus design, materials and operational processes on sustainability, including energy saving and waste reduction. The European Commission is committed to driving energy and efficiency regulations across Europe and to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050, a number below 1990s levels.

The need for serious change continues to grow as the EU implements specific goals for recycling plastics and targeting a better strategy for a Circular Economy. This strong regulatory framework sets the stage for new materials, whose properties can have an impact on what holds a package together, and high-quality adhesives play a significant role in enabling the next generation of packaging development.
